2012 River District Festival
 
 

River District Festival 2012 planning is underway! This year, the 2-day festival, October 5 & 6, will take place near the MLK bridges on Main Street. There will be live music and other fun activities throughout the evening. On Saturday, October 5, a full day of fun will take place in the Old Tobacco Warehouse District. The RDF will be from the intersection of Newton & Bridge Street to the Carrington Pavilion. Saturday’s activities will include: food and drink vendors, IMAGINE! Children’s festival, an adventure race, cultural expo, art show, arts and crafts vendors, local business showcase, local and national musical performers, and so much more!

 Make a Difference!! Without the support of volunteers, the River District Festival would not be possible!  River District Festival is led by community partners and volunteers like you. We need support from the community from the planning process to executing the festival on October 5th & 6th .There are many different ways you can help that can highlight your skills and interests.

Day of Action-Day of Reading 2011
 

On June 21, 2011, volunteers throughout Danville and Pittsylvania County participated in UWDPC's Day of Action-Day of Reading. Sixty-eight volunteers read to 22 classroom of young children throughout the community. Over 12 early childcare providers and family home providers participated. Teams of volunteers were out all day reading to children and doing hands-on activities. Each child took home a copy of the book,  Who Sank the Boat by Pamela Allen along with a parent activity. Over 200 children's books and parent resources were distributed and each participating early childcare provider received classroom resource materials. Participating businesses in the community included Wilkins & Co., Danville Sheriff Department, Goodyear, Carter Bank & Trust, Danville Regional Medical Center, Target, Piedmont Access to Health Services and Department of Social Services. Local churches and civic groups also provided teams of volunteers.
